The soil of this part of the terrain was partly shoveled by the former owner to level the terrace, some 10 years ago. The part that received the thickest layer of soil is of course most favourable for the growth of vegetation, also because the simple fact of moving the soil liberates nutrients. So every year the haymaking starts on these parts whereas the other parts are cut later or not at all. The thyme bushes in the lower right corner of the image are never cut.

When cutting the vegetation with a scythe I decide on the go which shrubs or young trees are spared, trying to create a relatively open, park-like landscape, most favourable for a varied and rich wild life.

When I moved the hay piles to the vegetable garden a few days later I discovered a beautiful ring snake (Natrix natrix) coiled up comfortably under a pile.

In the pond on the left the yellow Iris (Iris pseudacorus) is flowering profusely.

La tierra de esta parte del terreno fue parcialmente movida por el anterior propietario para nivelar la terraza, hace unos 10 años. La parte que recibió la capa más gruesa de tierra ofrece por supuesto las mejores condiciones para el crecimiento de la vegetación, también porque el propio movimiento de tierra libera nutrientes. Así que cada año la temporada de siega arranca en estas partes mientras en otras se siega más tarde o se salta. Los arbustillos de tomillo en la parte abajo a la derecha de la imagen se cortan nunca.
Segando la vegetación con una guadaña, voy decidiendo sobre la marcha que arbustos o arboles jóvenes voy a salvar o no, intentando de crear un paisaje relativamente abierto como un parque, lo más favorable para una vida silvestre rica y variada.

Cuando saqué las pilas de heno para llevarlos al huerto un par de días después, descubrí una preciosa culebra de collar (Natrix natrix), cómodamente enrollado por debajo de una pila.

En el estanque a la izquierda el lirio amarillo (Iris pseudacorus) está floreciendo de forma abundante.
